The Estate

Domaine aux Conseillans extends across nineteen hectares on a plateau south-east of Bordeaux. Vines cover about five of those hectares; the larger part is forest, meadow, spring and stream. Those who see the place for the first time notice first the green mosaic in which the vine rows are set.

Between the vine rows lie meadows and hedges, a pond and a stream, a lavender field, a young olive grove and a sheep pasture; three bee colonies stand in the middle of it all. The forest to the east belongs here as naturally as the vines to the west.

The name of the place is a lieu-dit — a named locality, handed down for centuries and already noted on the Cassini maps of the eighteenth century. We carry it forward, because a place that bears its own name also carries its own responsibility.
